Obituary for Elizabeth Jane Bishop (Huebner)

Elizabeth Jane “ Betty” Bishop’ loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away following complications from a stroke on August 16th, 2016.

Betty was born in St. Paul, MN, on January 7, 1932. the daughter of William and Esther Huebner. As a middle child of 8, she became the loving older sister to her younger siblings, but also the “Cool Aunt Betty” to her older nieces and nephews.

After graduating from high school in Moorhead, MN, she went to business school in Fargo, ND and was working at Merchant’s Bank when she met the love of her life—Jack Bishop.

Betty and Jack met on a blind date and were engaged a week later. During their time together they had 3 boys, Roy, Jon, Brian, and a daughter, Lori.

Jack’s job took them to Iowa, Nebraska, and Illinois before their final move to Oklahoma City where she lived for the rest of her life.

Betty was an extremely talented seamstress and loved to make clothes for herself and her kids. She also spent a great deal of her time making puppets for overseas ministries and alter hangings for her church.

After Jack’s death, Betty worked for H & R Block, but the majority of her time was spent sharing her love of Jesus with everyone she met. She had a special spirit about her and never met a stranger.

Betty’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known to some as Grandma, others as Grandma Betty, and Nammer to her youngest grandchild, there wasn’t a day that she didn’t talk, sing or dance with them. And as they grew older, she enjoyed watching them perform at sporting events, recitals, contests, graduations, and talking to them as they began to grow into adults.

Betty is survived by her son Roy and his wife Katherine, son Jon, son Brian and his wife Nancy, daughter Lori Cornforth and her husband John. Grandchildren Samantha, Michael, Joshua, Jared, Jacob, Ally, and Clare. Great-grandchildren Lincoln, Ralston, and Becklynn. She is also survived by her sisters June and Maggie and brother John and his wife Peggy, sister-in law Dolores and Adele, and a number of nieces and nephews and their children too.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Jack, father William, and mother Ester and her brothers Wayne and Bill, and sisters Berdelle and Esther, brother in-law Dick, and many other family members.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 19th, 2016 at Vondel Smith Funeral home 13125 North MacArthur. Betty’s Service will be held at Vondel Smith Funeral Home on Saturday, August 20th at 10am with Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the Service.
