Obituary for Virginia A Ppool (Stroup)

On Sept. 18 2016, Virginia Stroup Ppool, 90, was called to Heaven by her Lord and Savior. Virginia Arlene Stoup was born Sept. 12, 1926, in Shidler, OK. Her parents, Harry and Mabel Stroup, moved to Bowlegs, OK, where she grew up and graduated Bowlegs High School in 1944. After high school, she attended St. John's School of Nursing in Tulsa, OK. In Sept. 1945, Virginia married her high school sweetheart, C.L. "Pete" Ppool, and they celebrated 65 years of marriage prior to his death in July 2011. Virginia is survived by one son, Michael Ppool (Shirley), of Bartlesville, OK; daughters, Marla Ramsey (Ralph) and Mitzi Gingrich, of Hot Springs; six grandsons and seven great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Stroup (Donna), of Spring, TX; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a cousin, Betty Dyer, of Iowa Park, TX. In addition to family, Virginia leaves behind many friends in all parts of the world. She and Pete lived in 10 different countries during their 65-year marriage and his 40-year career with Phillips Petroleum Co. Among those places were Venezuela; Brisbane and Darwin, Australia; Jakarta, Indonesia; London and Great Yarmouth, England; Papua, New Guinea; Maputo, Mozambique; Stavanger, Norway; Smackover and Hot Springs, AR. In 1985, they retired to Oklahoma City, where she volunteered at Integris Baptist Hospital for over 20 years. She enjoyed playing bridge, cooking, crocheting, and most of all, being with her family. She was an avid OU fan and hardly missed a game. Virginia and her husband were founding members of the Westside Christian Church in Oklahoma City. Since Aug. 2011, Virginia has made Hot Springs her home to be close to her daughters, Marla and Mitzi. She has lived at the West Shores Senior Living; Montgomery County Nursing Home in Mount Ida, AR; and for the past year, she has lived happily at the Atrium Memory Care. The family would like to express appreciation to each of these facilities for taking special care of our loved one. And finally, to Arkansas Hospice, a big thank-you for making all of us comfortable during her final days with us. A special word of appreciation to caregivers Darla Vincent and Spencer Ramsey for always being there when she needed their help. A Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the Caruth-Hale Funeral Home in Hot Springs, AR. A Graveside Service will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery in Oklahoma City, under the direction of Vondel Smith Mortuary North. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Westside Christian Church, 10145 NW Expy, Yukon, OK 73099.
