Obituary for Clarence Clifford Smith

Clarence C (Porkey) Smith was born March 6, 1924 in Buffalo, OK to Cliff and Opal Smith. He attended High School in Coldwater, KS and graduated in 1942. He volunteered to serve his country and served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946.
He attended Northwestern State College in Alva, OK and graduated from there on May 19, 1950. Clarence met his “sweet little red headed” wife Mary Johnson during his college days and they were married August 24, 1947. They shared a wonderful 69 years together. They had one child, Mary Teresa (Terry) born on October 8, 1949. Clarence worked in Ponca City in the Conoco Research and Development Dept. and retired as Director of Research Services on January 1, 1985 after 35 years of service. Clarence and Mary enjoyed their retirement years wintering in Rockport, TX and spending summers at home in Ponca City. Six years ago they moved to OKC to be near their daughter.
Clarence and Mary were members of Sunset Baptist Church in Ponca City where he served as a deacon. He also was a member of the Ponca City Masonic Lodge.
Clarence died after a three week illness on October 14, 2016. He was 92 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Smith, of OKC; and his daughter and son in law, Dr. Cary and Terry Fisher, of OKC; his granddaughter, Dr. Rebecca Faulkner Branum and husband Matthew Branum and great grandchild, Ty Faulkner, of OKC; grandson, Dr. Brian Fisher and wife Kimberly Fisher and great grandchildren Evelyn, Marianne, and Ewan Fisher, of Lubbock, TX; and his sister, Bonnie Smith Ward, of Denver, CO.
He is preceded in death by his parents Cliff and Opal Smith, brothers Darrell and JK Smith, and sisters Evelyn Bibb and Merrianne Haun.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the Vondel Smith North Colonial Chapel, with a burial to follow at 3:30 PM at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, KS.
