Obituary for James Edward Rogers

May 11, 1928 - Feb. 7, 2017 OKLAHOMA CITY CMSGT (Retired) James E. Rogers was born May 11, 1928 in Lawrenceburg, TN. He entered Heaven's gate February 7, 2017. Jim was proud to serve his country for over 21 years as a member of The U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1969 as Chief Master Sergeant. He was part of the 509th Bomb Wing and was stationed at Walker AFB in Roswell, NM at the time of "The Roswell Incident". After retiring from the Air Force, Jim was employed with the Postal Service for 20 years. He started as a distribution clerk and finished his career working in payroll. Jim was known as Mr. PSOS and was recognized repeatedly for outstanding performance. Upon retirement from the Postal Service he and his wife owned and operated the J&K Bar in historic Capitol Hill. Jim devoted a large amount of time to The American Legion and helping Veterans at the VA Center in Norman. Jim enjoyed bowling and loved to bowl in tournaments around the country. He also enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and his 509th Squadron Reunions. Jim was a man with a ready smile and caring heart. He was a wonderful Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa. Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Wise; the mother of his children, Emma Rogers; infant son, Dewayne; wife, Nadine Thompson; and his dogs, Mande & Nike. He is survived by his children: Mike Rogers, Kay Rogers, Pat Rogers, wife Pam, Kathy Jones-Moody, husband Jim; step-son, Joe Mac McCathren; grandchildren, Jennifer Walker, Stephanie Rogers, Jessica Rogers, Phil Rogers, Sara Rogers, Tammy Daily, Cindy Murphy, Deana McCathren, JoLynn Ybarra, Carey Baughman, Steve Knight and Donald Knight; 15 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren. You left us beautiful memories; your love and integrity will still be our guide. Services to celebrate James' life will be at 2 PM today at the funeral home.
