Visitation will be held Friday, May 24 from 4-8 PM at the funeral home. Services to celebrate his life will take place Saturday, May 28 starting at 10:00 AM at the funeral home.


Edward Maurice Courtney went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the age of 96. He was born May 2, 1921 in Konawa, Oklahoma, to his parents, Homer and Estelle Courtney, Ed served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a petroleum landman for nearly 30 years. As a member of Kentucky Avenue Baptist Church for over 70 years, Ed was active in all aspects of the church. His service to others was evident in all he did in living as a true disciple of the Lord. He enjoyed spending many hours visiting the sick in hospitals and nursing homes. Ed had a heart for missions and was president of the Mission Mailbag ministry during its many years of operation. He will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his:
Parents;
Loving wife of 72 years, Betty Courtney, whom he affectionately referred to as his “sweetie”.

He is survived by his:
Daughter, Vickie Courtney;
Daughter, Lisa Awbrey and her husband, Ben;
Brother, Milton Courtney and his wife, Anna;
Sister, June Skaggs;
Brother-in-law, Bentley Hedges and his wife, Bonnie;
Grandchildren: Eric Awbrey, Lauren Scott and husband, Brandon.

We are grateful for those who have tirelessly cared for Ed during these past months, especially Amanda Atkinson, who has ministered to Ed with selfless compassion.
