Douglas Dean Wilkes passed away June 22nd, 2017 at the age of 61. Doug was born May 20, 1956 to Woody and Leona (Young) Wilkes. Doug grew up in South Oklahoma City and graduated from U.S. Grant in 1974. He continued his education at Central State University where he earned a B.A. in business in 1978. Shortly after graduating, Doug began working with his parents and brother at Wilkes Construction and Color Wheel Decorating Center in Oklahoma City. Here he learned construction and management skills, which he used his entire life as he was an avid do-it-yourselfer. Doug went on to hold various retail management positions in Oklahoma City and Houston. Upon return to Oklahoma City, Doug became a Financial Planner and successfully completed his Series Seven exams. In 2012 he moved to Henryetta, Oklahoma and managed multiple Reeser’s grocery stores before becoming Assistant Manager at the local Arby’s restaurant. He was recently chosen to manage the new Shoney’s Restaurant opening in Henryetta.
Doug enjoyed playing golf, camping, fishing, and spending time with his family. He loved to cook and try new recipes. As a kid, Doug was involved with Southside Chiefs in little league football, basketball, and baseball. He continued playing sports through high school and enjoyed playing softball as an adult and was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys and the Sooners. Doug took pride in his appearance and enjoyed a nice suit. He had an extensive and unique tie collection. As a tribute to Doug, his pallbearers and some of his family are wearing a few of the finer ties in his collection during his memorial service.
