Shirley Evanelle, age 82 left this earth to begin a new life with her Lord and Savior on September 19, 2017. She was born July 30, 1935 in Oklahoma City, OK, to Clarence Ernest and Rhoda E. Hurst. She was a former employee of the Oklahoma Publishing Company, Classified Advertising, and retired from the State of Oklahoma Department of Human Services, Legal Division. She retired from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) after 26 1/2 years of service and was a survivor of the April 19, 1995 Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building bombing. She enjoyed her grandchildren’s ballgames, her beloved pets, watching sports, reading, music, especially the Gaither Homecoming Programs, and vacationing in California. Shirley is survived by her son Robert Mark Brotherton and wife Nity; two grandchildren, Robert Matthew Brotherton and Dana Lauren Brotherton , and one great-granddaughter Taytum Fix, all of Oklahoma City.


She was preceded in death by:
Husband of 62 years James Robert (Bob) Brotherton,
Son Jay Brotherton,
Parents, and her stepmother for 24 years, Mrs. Annie Hurst,
Her legal guardians, Russell S. and Beulah P. Oden

Shirley is survived by her loving:
Son Robert Mark Brotherton and wife Nity;
Two grandchildren, Robert Matthew Brotherton and Dana Lauren Brotherton ,
and one great-granddaughter Taytum Fix, all of Oklahoma City.
