Obituary for Don R. Robinson

Don R. Robinson
Vondel Smith Mortuary at South Lakes

Don was born in Watonga, OK to Clyde and Lillian Robinson. Don kept many fond memories of his childhood in Pond Creek. He graduated from Watonga High School in 1952. Shortly after graduating he enlisted with the US Army. Proudly serving in the 10th Mountain Division and as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division. A few years after his time in the service, Don and Carmilita (Harp) Robinson began their 59 years of marriage on August 21, 1958, and they raised their family in OKC. Don was a great father and worked hard to provide for his family. In the ‘70s Don attended OCU and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in History & Political Science. He was also 32nd Degree Mason and was proud to be affiliated with the Masonic Lodge in Guthrie. After nearly 35 years with the FAA, Don retired, which allowed him more time with his beloved wife, fondly known by the family as “Granna.” He was a devoted husband and took care of his wife throughout the years. He and his wife had a daily ritual of visiting Sonic for Happy Hour & loved sitting on the porch together almost every day. He was a wonderful father and grandfather, affectionately called “Grandad” and he made some of his favorite memories while spending time with his family. Don was an avid reader and loved reading about history and “sharing his knowledge with others.” Don enjoyed crossword puzzles and other games that would test his mind. Don liked old things that had history, which is why he enjoyed collecting antique bottles, listening to ‘50s music and admiring classic cars. Anyone that knew Don was aware of his great sense of humor and knew just how funny he was, but his family, especially his grandkids, has special memories of him being goofy. Although Don is no longer on this earth, his memory will remain through the great legacy he’s left behind. He will be deeply missed. Don was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Lillian Robinson. Don is survived by his loving Wife, Carmilita; Son, Robbie Robinson & wife Teresa; Daughter, Donita Coon and husband Greg; Brother, Roy Stephen Robinson; 5 Grandchildren, Stephanie Mitchell & husband Kyle, Brian Coon, Alyssa Coon, Ashley Lindsay & husband Kyle, Hannah Robinson; 1 Great Grandchild Jovanni; As well as numerous extended family and friends
