She was born on February 18, 1938 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to her parents, Charles “Earl” and Sylvah “Marie” (Ferrier) Hoag. She was raised in south Oklahoma City with her brothers, Jimmy and Jerome. She attended Capitol Hill High School and was a “Rainbow Girl” during her time there. She worked her parent’s Root Beer stand and that’s where she first met her husband. She graduated in 1956 married the love of her life, Kenneth Ray Thomas on February 21, 1956.
