Obituary for Norma Martinez

Norma Jean Martinez, 83, of Oklahoma City, passed away peacefully into the hands of the Lord on January 5, 2018. Norma was born on March 20, 1934 to Henry and Dorothy (Phelps) Balke in Minco, Oklahoma.
Norma was raised in Minco where she enjoyed her family and activities including performing as a twirler in the Minco band.
She went to nursing school at Old Mercy where she met her husband David who was pursuing his degree in X-ray science. The couple married and later moved to Weatherford where David gained his degree in Pharmacy. Norma worked as a surgical nurse and director of surgery, home health director of one of the first home health providers in the area and retired after a long, successful career in nursing. Norma enjoyed OSU football and antiquing with her family and husband. Her greatest passion was her grandchildren and she was always attending multiple sporting and school activities happily supporting them. Norma and David went on multiple medical mission trips and had a passion for helping the underserved to help provide needed health care.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her brother George and her husband, David.
Norma is survived by her children: Tim Martinez and his wife Michelle; Terri Winblad and her husband Rick; Chris Martinez and his wife Jill; Suzanne Hicks and her husband Steve; her 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
A memorial service to remember Norma will be held at 1:00 PM on January 12, 2018 at the Brill Chapel of Epworth Villa, 14901 N. Pennsylvania, OKC, OK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Epworth Villa Benevolent Fund, in memory of Norma Martinez, 14901 N Pennsylvania Ave. OKC, OK 73134.
