Obituary for Nancy Jane Ball (Ruble)

Nancy Jane Ball (Ruble)
Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuary 6934 S. Western Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Nancy Ruble Ball – October 13, 1932 to April 19, 2018.

Nancy was born in Nashville, Tennessee to Tom and Vera Ruble. At the age of 7, Nancy was diagnosed with polio and spent time in an iron lung and polio convalescent home for two years. She defied the odds, her doctors’ prognoses and proceeded to live a rich, full life. Nancy lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Oregon, and Arizona but always thought of Oklahoma City as her home. She graduated from Milby High School in Houston and attended Abilene Christian College. Nancy had the voice of an angel and was a member of the Houston A Cappella Choir. Nancy retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital having worked for them in Houston and Oklahoma City. She taught piano, loved music of all genres, and was an avid sports fan. Her favorite team was the Oklahoma Sooners. Nancy was a faithful member of the Church of Christ.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Tom and Vera Ruble. Nancy’s survivors include her brother Sam Ruble and wife Mattie; her children Judi Nelson and her partner Chris, Tom Nelson and his wife Kim, and Robyn Rizzo; her grandchildren Angie Russo, Amanda Laura, Nancy Nelson, John Nelson, and Sierra Rizzo; and her great grandchildren – Alex, Lilyanne, Abbie, Hannah, and Ollie.

Nancy was an inspiration to so many and will be remembered for her love of Elvis, the color purple, her infectious laugh, her encyclopedic music and sports knowledge, and her indomitable spirit.

Services and a celebration of her life will take place on April 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Southern Ridge Church of Christ in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Polio Plus Foundation of Rotary International via MyRotary.org.
