Obituary for Charlie O. Morgan

Charlie O. Morgan, age 86, was born October 5,1931, in Okemah, OK, to Faye and Dorothy (Green) Morgan. Charlie lived a full life and on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, surrounded by his family, he went home to be with loved ones in heaven.

Charlie married Mattie Burnett in May of 1949 and together they raised their four children: Dottie, Charlie (Digger), Danny, and Kenny in Prague, OK.

Charlie began a successful career of entrepreneurship by starting his own business, Morgan Well Service, in 1963 and the business is still going strong today.

Besides owning a local business, Charlie served his community as a member of the City Council and Mayor of Prague. After getting a local dose of civic involvement he decided to run for state office and he was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives. From 1972 - 1988 he served the voters of House District 32, predominantly Lincoln and Okfuskee counties. He made history when his brother, Jim, also joined him as a member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives. They are the only two brothers in state history to have served in the Oklahoma House at the same time.

He was a licensed pilot and loved flying his Baron. He was also a big OU fan and enjoyed combining his love of airplanes with OU football by flying his plane to the Max Westheimer Airport in Norman to attend OU games.

Charlie met the love of his life, Beverly, in 1987 while they were both working at the Capitol. They dated for 10 years. Charlie finally said he was going to marry someone on November 7 at the courthouse and that Beverly had first right of refusal. But, regardless, he was getting married to someone on that date. Beverly finally surrendered and they were married on November 7, 1997 and they had 20 happy and adventurous years together. With their union, Charlie's family expanded to include Brenda, Todd and Sonya.

In addition to his family, Charlie adored his beloved dog, Morgan. Charlie and Beverly's home was party central and their kids and grandkids loved visiting Beverly (EB) and Charlie (Poppy). A day spent with EB and Poppy was truly priceless.

Family and friends will remember Charlie holding court on his back patio with a glass of wine in one hand and a cigar in the other. If you knew him, you loved him. Charlie's generous heart, his quick wit, and mischievousness will be greatly missed.

Charlie is preceded in death by his sons, Digger and Kenny, daughter-in-law Debbie Morgan, and brother-in-law Dewey Maris.

Charlie is survived by his sister, Geneva Maris, of Texas City, TX, and brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Ruth Morgan, of Seminole, OK. He is also survived by his wife, Beverly, and their five children and spouses: Dottie and David Watson, Danny and Treasure Morgan, Brenda and Mark Cummings, Todd and Carie Triplett, Sonya and Larry King, as well as their beloved grandchildren: Vanessa and Joe, Robert and Melissa, Dylan, Zachary and Maegan, Danielle, Mandy and Josh, Jessi, Austin and Abby, Caleb, Jenna, Chase, Randi, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A special thank you goes to the nurses of Mercy Hospice and Visiting Angels for assisting Beverly in caring for Charlie at home during the past two weeks.
