Obituary for Hershall W Burns

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 12-8 PM with the family present to greet friends from 2-4 PM and viewing on Monday from 4-8PM.

Services will be held 10 AM Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018 at Southern Hills Church of God 1029 W I-240 Service Road Oklahoma City, OK 73139.

Burial will follow at Sunnylane Cemetery with honors provided by the U. S. M. C. Reserve

Hershall, 86, was born in Oklahoma City to Virgis W. & Lorene L. Burns. He attended Capitol Hill High School & at the age of 15 joined the U.S.M.C. Reserve. Shortly after receiving his basic training in California, his reserve unit was activated & called into service during the Korean Conflict. Hershall was a survivor of the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir & member of the Chosin Few. Following his service to his country & discharge, he returned to Oklahoma City where he married his lifelong sweetheart, Josephine Afinowicz, in June of 1950. Hershall completed his high school education & attended night school at O.C.U. where he received his Bachelors Degree. He retired from the F. A. A. as an Avionics & Radar Instructor & had taught Avionics & Radar at O.S.U. Tech & in Saudi Arabia. Hershall was a member of Southern Hills Church of God, of which his family were founding members.
Hershall was a devoted & loving husband, father, grandfather & friend who will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents;
Brother & sister in law, Jack & Theresa Burns;
Son in law Bob Walls & his uncle Jim Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine, of 68 years;
Two sons, Hershall W. Burns Jr. & wife Kim; Ted Burns & wife Debbie; daughter Debbie Wiginton & husband Wade;
Grandchildren Cody Burns & his wife Valerie & their children Brynn & Blake Burns; Dustin Burns & wife Marianna; Joshua Laws & wife Katie & their children Eli & Owen Laws; Breonna Coleman & husband Jeremy & their children Reagan, Carter, Madi & Erin; Kaelah Sherman & husband Dylan & their son Viktor.
