Obituary for Estle Gene Wall

Estle Gene Wall was a husband to one, a father to five, a grandfather to nine, a great grandfather to nine, a Coach to hundreds and a teacher to even more. Though each of those titles were meaningful to him, the greatest descriptor of Estle Gene Wall was that he was a follower of Jesus. According to the Scriptures, this adoption by Christ takes the sting out of March 19, 2023 when he took his last breath. Because of Christ’s work in his life, we are coming together to celebrate His life and honor the fact Jesus ushered him into his literal eternal home. Estle Wall was born on August 5, 1935 in Oklahoma City and grew up working at Les Wall Wheel Alignment alongside the entire Wall crew. In spite of the long hours under cars, Estle managed to graduate from Capitol Hill High School in 1953 while doing a lot of damage with his brothers on Fastpitch softball fields all across Oklahoma. Estle had a dirty change up that became well known by both catchers and hitters all across the metro. As a young man, Mary Hulet caught his eye and some how talked her into marrying him. This was a small miracle because as many have come to realize, it is easier to be a Wall than be married to a Wall. Mary remained his most loyal companion and the love of his life for over 68 years. After a long career as an auto mechanic, Estle moved his tools to the home garage and went back to school at Central State University where he graduated in 1972. He went on to get a Master’s degree at the University of Oklahoma in 1977. These degrees helped him fulfill his ultimate earthly calling which was to be a geography teacher and coach. Though he spent some time coaching Basketball, he found his sweet spot and home on the tennis court. This passion for tennis combined with his love for Non-Country Club kids from the Southside, turned into a genuine legacy of influence. Though he accomplished many things on the court, nothing was more satisfying than taking city park southsiders and beating the Edmond Country Club elites. Truthfully, Coach Wall saw potential in countless athletes investing and developing winners on and off the court. His presence on the tennis circuit was noticeable and his tenacity in seeding meetings was legendary. His coaching career was honored around the state in 2018 when he was inducted into the Oklahoma Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame. Estle and Mary also led the singles department at South Lindsay Baptist Church for many years. They inspired many romances through ski trips, late night fellowships and gathering around the Word of God. He invested in people and was deeply loved by those who knew him best. He was preceded in death by his parents Les and Hattie Wall, his brothers Les Jr. and Jerry Wall, His sisters Alberta Jones and Wiletta Heath, and his first son Donald. He is survived by his wife Mary, his daughter Angie Parker and her husband Barry, his son Mike Wall and his wife Vanda, his daughter Sharon Salyer and her husband Greg, his son Chris Wall and his wife Robin, and Geert van Reisen and his wife Nicole of the Netherlands. He is survived by nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, his sister Carrol Osteen and her husband Kent and his brother Danny Wall.
