Obituary for James T. "Buddy" Cox

James T “Buddy” Cox, age 84 of Oklahoma City, passed away suddenly May 5th, 2023. He was born July 24, 1938 in Yukon,OK to Jerome T Cox and Francis Hamilton Cox.

Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, son Richard, sister Lorraine, brothers Earl, Gene, Johnny and Tony.

He is survived by his wife Jean, daughter Billie Jean Berry and husband Tommy, son James T “Jimmy” Cox Jr. and wife Pam, brother Glenn Cox and wife Pat and sister Patsy Livingston, as well as 5 grandchildren: Jennifer, Pamela, Jessica, Haylie and Caleb, all of which got a trip to Branson with Mama and Papa. They then went on to provide them with 14 great grandchildren. He was loved and will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews and a dear friend from the age of 12, Wayne Hestand.

Buddy married the love of his life, Jean, on August 17, 1960, the same day she found out his given name wasn’t Buddy. They raised three children together and shared a loving marriage for nearly 63 wonderful years.

At age 14 Buddy got a job setting pins at Capital Sports Center and joined a league that same year, thus beginning his life long love of bowling. Over the years he held just about every league position and league honor and was inducted to Oklahoma City Bowling Hall of Fame United States Bowling Congress in 2000. He also had a high game of 299, just like him…nearly perfect.

After working as manager at Capital Sports Center and Holiday Lanes, Buddy went on to work for the USPS as a letter carrier where he formed many friendships before retiring in 1998 and still kept in touch with many of his fellow carriers.
