Obituary for John Brent Tate

John Brent Tate departed his earthly home on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, & entered his heavenly home in the loving arms of Jesus Christ his savior. Brent was born on March 12, 1962 to John and Nelda Tate. He made his public profession of faith when he was confirmed in St. John’s Lutheran Church at the age of 14. He graduated from Moore High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Brent met his sweetheart Paula after college. They became avid skeet shooters as members of the OKC Gun Club where he served on the board of directors & as Shotgun Division Chairman. Brent joined Paula as an NSSA certified skeet instructor & enjoyed helping with her Chicks Breakin’ Clays groups. Traveling in their RV was one of Brent’s favorite pastimes, spending time in nature & taking his dog Jackson for long walks. Brent loved grilling & doing bbqs which his family & friends also loved. He was a devoted football fan of the OSU Cowboys and KC Chiefs. Brent worked for Farmers Insurance for 32 years as an auto & liability claims adjustor, then claims supervisor, & finally as the Oklahoma APD State manager. He was a member of the Caddo Tribe. He was a faithful & loving husband, son, brother, & uncle. Brent deeply cared for his family, gun club friends, Farmer’s friends, neighbors, & Beta brothers.
Brent is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years Paula; his parents John & Nelda Tate; btr Eric & wife Patti; btr Ryan; btr-in-law Greg Chancey; str-in-law Lauri Buchanan & husb Kent; nephews Michael Chancey, Keaton Buchanan & Jason Wilke; nieces Jessica, Tara, & Meghann Chancey & Lynisa Dunn; great-nieces Ella Chancey, Myah Wilke & Cait Dunn; great-nephews Aaric & Charlie Chancey, Miller Wilke & Conelly Dunn; and uncles Jack Newell & wife Alece and Dennis Newell & wife Donna.
He was preceded in death by his ftr & mtr-in-law Paul & Lorene Chancey; str-in-law Lou Ella Chancey; his grandparents Floyd & Helen Tate & uncle Bill; & grandparents Bob & Lorene Newell.
Paula & family would like to thank the amazing nurses at Integris Health Edmond who cared for Brent during his last days, Dr. Romeo Mandanas & nurse Barbara at the Integris Health Cancer Institute for treating his cancer these past two years, & case worker Kathleen Gray RN at the Oklahoma City Indian Clinic for her encouragement & support during this difficult time in our lives. You all are our heroes.

Memorial contributions may be made out to American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.

A celebration of life will be held 10 AM Saturday, April 29, 2023 at the Vondel Smith North Colonial Chapel (13125 N. MacArthur Blvd).
