Obituary for Mary Ann Stevens (Afinowicz)

Mary Ann Stevens went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at the age of 93. The daughter of Rose Alaine (Tytenicz) and Mike Kessie Afinowicz, Mary was born on January 12, 1930 in Harrah, Oklahoma. Mary was raised in the Harrah area and was extremely proud of her Ukrainian / Polish heritage. She grew up attending Harrah/OKC Schools and graduated, in 1948, from Central High School where she was active in the Black Skirts, Yell Club and band. At a young tender age, Mary met and fell in love with her childhood sweetheart, Glenn Alvin Stevens. On November 12, 1948, they were united in marriage and this union was blessed with four sons and a daughter. Mary was a strong Christian woman who led all of her children to the Lord at an early age and dedicated her life to providing a warm and loving home, caring for her five children. Glenn and Mary made certain their children were well cared for and raised in a loving and Christian home. Mary was an active and longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church and Brookwood Baptist Church. In addition to being a loving wife, devoted mother, and dedicated homemaker, Mary also worked as a receptionist at the dental office of Dr. Jerry Benson for more than 20 years. She enjoyed her time working there and helping patients. In her spare time, Mary enjoyed making her Polish specialties, perogies and cabbage rolls, for her family. She loved teaching Sunday School, Ladies Bible Study, Vacation Bible School, cooking at Falls Creek Camp for the youth, and spending time with her best friend, Jo Nell Ross. She also loved her card ministry. Mary was a very loving wife, devoted mother and doting grandmother who always put the needs of her family and others before her own. She truly had a servant’s heart and will be fondly remembered. She left a tremendous legacy that will continue to live on in our hearts each day. We rejoice in knowing she is in Heaven with the Lord and her beloved husband, Glenn, and sister, Jo.
