Raymond Pappe, age 87, born on a farm near Union City, OK on August 26, 1935, passed away in Oklahoma City, OK on March 7, 2023.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley Pappe, his three daughters; Pamela Rogers (Patrick), Susan Kuzmic (David), and Christine Guckian (Greg), his four grandchildren who called him Papa; Sheryl Bowman (Craig), Jessica Rogers, Amber Drennen and Phillip Rogers (Lauren), his five great-grandchildren; Micah, James, Kamryn, Bennett, Bailey and one on the way, great-nephew Jimmy Pappe (Mandie) and sister-in-law Charlotte Graham. Raymond is preceded in death by his parents Richard and Letress Pappe, brother Albert Pappe (Martha), infant sister Martha and his grandson-in-law Keith Drennen. Raymond relished spending time with his family every chance he got, he was a true family man.

Raymond was a graduate of Union City High School where he played center on the basketball team as a proud member of the Tigers. He grew up on a farm and took pride in farm living, often telling stories of life on the farm back in the day. He married his highschool sweetheart, Shirley Feddersen, on September 1, 1956 in Union City.

He went on to attend Oklahoma State University as a first-generation college student and graduated in 1958 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Thus began his love affair with OSU which he instilled in his daughters and grandchildren. Raymond and Shirley have held OSU football season tickets since 1976 and rarely missed a home game. They have also held season tickets for baseball and basketball throughout the years. Tailgating was a passion for Raymond, he especially enjoyed the fellowship and food offerings. He loved following his beloved Pokes to bowl games to cheer them on with his fellow Cowboys.
Raymond worked for Tinker Air Force base for 33 years as a mechanical engineer, ending with the position of Chief of Engineering and Reliability Branch for the B-1B systems. His job took his family to Germany for a short time, which sparked a lifelong love of all things German, as well as many return trips. Upon retirement, he went on to consult for TRW as an aerospace engineer. Raymond was a 32nd degree Mason, earning his 50 year pin. He was also a long time member of the OSU Alumni Association. Raymond and Shirley have been members of the Southern Hills United Methodist Church since November 1969.

Raymond lived life to the fullest and exercised daily. Among his many interests and talents: traveling to new countries and places on countless trips, especially cruises; photography including capturing any and all family events; water skiing well into his 70’s and sharing his passion by teaching family and friends; being out on the boat at the lake; current events and history, especially of Oklahoma and Germany; and polka music, particularly viewing live bands and attending festivals.
Raymond was a very generous person who contributed to the world in many different ways. He will be remembered for his gregarious spirit and faithful heart. In memory of him and his love for OSU, feel free to honor him by wearing orange if you choose. Go Pokes!
