Obituary for Robert Lee "Bo" Faulkenberry Jr.

Robert Lee “Bo” Faulkenberry, Jr. was born on May 5, 1926, in Dallas, Texas. He was the son of Robert Lee and Robbie Porter (Bethurum) Faulkenberry. He grew up in many states, as his father’s job required his family to move frequently. Eventually, the family settled in Oklahoma.

Bo met Betty June Mallory in high school, and they fell in love. However, they were unable to get married at that time; Bo had already enlisted in the Navy, and he had to leave for war shortly after he graduated. While in the military, Bo was sent to Guam during World War II, where he was stationed for three years. After his honorable discharge, Bo came back home, where he soon married Betty, the love of his life, on August 29, 1947. The happy couple had three daughters, and they raised them in Oklahoma City. As a family, they enjoyed attending church together at Shartel Church of God. Years later, Bo attended Crossings Community Church.

As a newlywed, Bo enrolled in the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in business and was a golf champion for the university’s golf team. Shortly after his college graduation, Bo was hired at The Daily Oklahoman, where he was employed for 33 years. Bo initially worked in the advertising sales department, then became the newspaper layout manager.

Bo had two loves: his family and golf. He was an avid golfer and could be seen at one of the local golf courses practically every weekend. Over the years, Bo held course records at both Hefner North and Hefner South. Even after he retired, he continued golfing almost daily, and in his later years, he worked at Hefner Golf Course part-time.

Bo was blessed with a long, full life and went to be with his Savior on Friday, April 14, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Robbie; his wife, Betty; his daughters, Nancy Everheart and Linda Shadid, and his great-grandson, Timothy Smith. He is survived by his sister, Juanita Keith; his daughter, Robbie Smith; his sons-in-law, W.C. “Dub” Everheart and Stanley Shadid; his nine grandchildren, Danny Smith, Jr., Kimberly McMahon, Brandy Deaver, Robert Smith, April Bradbury, Dr. Christopher Shadid, Jennifer Fisher, Linley Bergeron, and Jason Everheart; and eighteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends for the viewing on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Vondel Smith Mortuary North, located at 13125 N. MacArthur Blvd. The memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 19th at 10:00 am at Crossings Community Church in the Crossings Community Church Chapel located at 14600 N. Portland. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
