A.J. Burkhart, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at the age of 62 after a tough battle with cancer. He was born December 7, 1948 in Cordell, Oklahoma to his Archie John and Bonnie Jewel (Rice) Burkhart. They moved around often during A.J's childhood because his father was in the military so he had been away from his home state for quite some time. Taking after his father, A.J. was also in the military. He served his country honorably and courageously while enlisted with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged after his service tie was up and began working in construction for a family member in Michigan. Not long after that time he actually hitchhiked his way back to Oklahoma in 1971. He met the love of his life, Wanda, after being back in Oklahoma for only a short time. They were wed on October 1st 1972 and have been married since. Nearly 10 years after their marriage they were blessed with a baby daughter, Heather, whom A.J. loved and cared for deeply. Throughout his life, A.J. was devoted father and husband. Everyone that knew him would tell you that he was a very hard worker. A.J. really enjoyed working outdoors more than anything. He always made sure that his job, whatever it may have been, was always done the right way. Most recently he was working as a supervisor for a fiber-optics installation company. In his spare time, A.J. was an avid outdoorsman. He loved any activity that had to do with being outside, but overall enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.
