IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alice May
Hayes
August 11, 1961 – May 23, 2015
Alice May (Jones) Hayes ended her race on this earth on Saturday, May 23, 2015 after a brief illness brought on by her valiant fight against Stage 4 Breast Cancer. Alice was born August 11, 1961 in Guthrie, Oklahoma the daughter of William Oliver and Gladys Josephine (Dabbs) Jones.
Alice moved to Edmond with her family on her 8th birthday. She graduated from Edmond Memorial High School in 1979, where she was a proud member of the Bulldog Band. She married Curtis Lawrence Hayes on June 10, 1989 in Edmond, Oklahoma at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. The couple welcomed their only child, daughter Taylor Paige Hayes. They made their home in Oklahoma City where they were members of Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church.
After a year of college at Central State University, Alice began her career with The Anschutz Corporation, and then was employed at Continental Federal Savings and Loan, where she met her future husband. For nearly 25 years, she worked at the State of Oklahoma Administrative Office of the Courts where she served as Deputy Chief Financial Officer. Her dear friend, Justice Yvonne Kauger, recently presented Alice with a Friend of the Court medal on behalf of the Oklahoma Supreme Court in honor of Alice's many years of service to the AOC and The Sovereignty Symposium.
Alice was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents and an infant brother. She was survived by her husband of almost 26 years, Curtis; daughter, Taylor; brothers, William O. Jones, Jr. (Bill) and his wife Beverly of Harrah, OK; Elton Wayne Jones of Guthrie, OK; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family. Alice was a loyal and devoted friend. She leaves behind a cast of friendships established from elementary to high school, work, neighborhoods, church, and her daughter's softball teams.
Alice was a wonderful and compassionate wife and mother. She was a great cook and she loved to travel with her husband and daughter. Her greatest gift was her selflessness, which she displayed until the very end; more concerned about causing problems for others than for her care and wellbeing. She was extremely proud of her daughter, who just finished her sophomore year at Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, Texas. She counts her as her greatest accomplishment. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
The family is deeply grateful to Dr. Brian Geister, M.D. and his staff at Integris Cancer Institute, DeOndra Brennan and the other nurses in the infusion suite, and to Integris Hospice House and the physicians, nurses and volunteers who tenderly cared for her during her last days.
An evening prayer vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday in the Vondel Smith Mortuary Chapel, 13125 N. MacArthur. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 29th at the Church of the Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church, 7336 W. Britton RD. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
