Viewing and visitation will be Wednesday July 23, 2025 from 4-8 PM with family greeting friends from 6-8 PM at the funeral home (4000 SW 119th St)
a graveside service for Almeta will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday July 24, 2025 at Resthaven Memory Gardens (500 SW 104th St).
Almeta Sue Harris went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 19th, 2025. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 8, 1938 in Anadarko, OK to her parents Orval and Genevieve Mears. In 1940 her family moved to Oklahoma City where she was a lifetime resident. She graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1956. After high school, she was working for the armed forces recruiting office where she met the love of her life Harvey Harris during his enlistment. The two were married on May 28, 1959 in Oklahoma City and honeymooned at Lake Texoma. The two established their family in Oklahoma City where they raised three sons: Mark, Brian, and David.
Other than bringing up boys, she also had a career as a medical coding clerk with the FAA for a number of years. She left the FAA many times, but she was such a dedicated and loved employee, she was the first to be asked to come back to work! She was a faithful member of Southern Hills Baptist Church for nearly 40 years. She will forever be remembered for being frugal and her love of her family. In her later years she enjoyed spending time with her great grand kids. Spending time with them put a smile on her face. She loved to bake sugar cookies for her grandkids and great grans.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Orval Francis Mears and Genevieve (Frick) Mears and a sister Nettie Mitchell,
Almeta is survived by her husband Harvey Harris of the home; her children: Mark Harris & Jay Lynn of OKC; Brian Harris & Kevin Lee of OKC; David Harris & Regina of Alex Oklahoma. brother, Orval Freddie Mears & Terri of OKC; 13 Grandchildren and 13 Great-Great Grandchildren and a niece Michelle Mears of El Reno Oklahoma.
