IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ann Veronica
Ward
June 28, 1935 – January 31, 2022
Ann Veronica Ward was born in Essex, England on June 28, 1935 to Harry and Winifred Leather. She passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on January 31, 2022 in Edmond, Oklahoma. Ann was a tough lady from humble beginnings. She lost her dad at a very young age and grew up in England with her mom and grandparents. She stood in food ration lines during the war and ducked around blackouts in London. After high school, Ann met Charlie Ward, a US military man from Marshield, Missouri. Charlie and Ann were married in 1955 and she became a military wife. The next year with her mom by her side she came to the United States. Ann traveled the world during Charlie's stations with the Air Force and always made the best of their situations. They went from Washington DC, where Darrell and Sheryl were born to Mississippi, on to Nebraska, then Berlin, Germany, Oklahoma, and Alabama, where Annabelle was born. Charlie's last assignment was back to Oklahoma where he retired in 1971.
After Charlie's retirement they moved to acreage in Edmond where his farm boy instincts brought them to horses, chickens, and rabbits. Ann continued with the chickens and rabbits after losing Charlie in 2014 and their son, Darrell in 2017. She lived life on the farm by herself until September of 2021.
Ann always had side lines to make extra money. She owned a ceramic shop and aquarium fish shop in Selma, Alabama and continued that artistic interest in Oklahoma. As a crafter, everything she owned was covered in paint, glitter and glue. She will be missed by her many rabbit show friends, neighbors and family. In her last days here words were always, "I'm OK". A tough English lady who lived life on her terms.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years; her son, Darrell Ward.
She leaves cherished memories with her daughter, Sheryl Ore and her husband, Bob; and her daughter, Annabelle Ward and Brad Nixon.
