Obituary

Annetta Louise Taylor Price August 18, 1917 ~ March 8, 2015 Annetta was the oldest child of Hattie Crouch Taylor and Martin Luther Taylor, born on August 18, 1917 in Menard Texas. Her sister Mayme Philips, the only remaining sibling lives in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Her father's family was in ranching while her mother's family was in the cotton gin business. The Taylor family moved from Texas to New Mexico to take part in the land rush, where each father and son acquired 650 acres. Martin was more interested in teaching than farming therefore he became the superintendent of Indian Schools for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Early childhood was spent on the Native American Reservations with her dad teaching and mother as the Post Mistress for the US Postal Service. As there were many responsibilities as the oldest child she became an avid reader and found solace in sneaking out to the windmill and climbing to the platform to read her books. She as well as many young girls of her time learned to embroidery, crochet, sew, cook and catch chickens to be prepared for the table. She treated her youngest brother, Raymond, like her own child. She was most interested in history and found Louis Lamour novels about the Old West her favorite. She and her sister, Dorthy were sent to boarding school at The Sister's of Loretta in Sante Fe, New Mexico. By Annetta's last year of high school, the family moved to Anadarko, Oklahoma so that her dad could work with the Indian Service. It was in Anadarko that she met her future husband and classmate, Jim L. Price. After high school Annetta moved to Amarillo, Texas, for business school, and she moved back to Anadarko marry Jim. Jim was drafted into the Navy and Annetta stayed with Betty and Jim II in Anadarko until Jim returned from duty on the aircraft carrier the USS Bunker Hill. At his return, Janet was two weeks old. One and a half years later, Annetta and Jim moved to Duncan, so that Jim could go to work as a grocer and part owner of a grocery store. The fourth child, Linda was born about 18 months later. The Price's were active members of the First Christian Church, the children's schools, Eastern Star and Masons, as well as other community activities. When Betty was starting her senior year in high school, Jim, in the 9th grade, Janet, a 7th grader and Linda 5th grader, the family moved to Oklahoma City where Jim and Annetta started Jim's IGA Super Markets with Annetta keeping all of the books. Through the years they also opened 19 convenience stores called Little Jim's. As three of the four children now in college, Jim and Annetta interest turned to Charolais Cattle breeding with their herd being recognized internationally. Later they also became thorough bred racehorse owners. Jim even name one of the fillies "Annetta's Prospect". One day, while waiting for a race to begin, a man approached him and asked "What do you think Annetta will do in today"s race?" Dad said, "I don't know, why don't you ask her, she's sitting right there." The man walked off. Dad loved mother very much. Jim passed away on January 29, 1998. Annetta continued to be a leader, mentor, example of a Christian in all aspects of her life. As she aged, she lost use of her legs, left arm arthritic hands, eye sight, and hearing only in her right ear and yet until the end; her love of life was the time her friend Alma Lynn, sister Mayme, nephews and nieces, bridge friends, red hat ladies and certainly her 4 children, 11 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She didn't like talking about health ailments. She said, "It's your business to take care of…not others." One of the last sentences she said that reflects her love of life was…"I wish I were a new baby so that I could start all over again."
