Obituary

Vondel Smith Mortuary at South Lakes

Annita May "Nita" Morrison, 78, returned to her heavenly home on November 4, 2015 after a brief struggle with illness. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her during that time and ultimately gave her peace.

Nita was born to Reubin Bartlett "Bart" and Juanita Marian Tyner, a business man and a homemaker respectively, in Chicago, IL, on July 9, 1937. She was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support from an early age. Bart moved the family to Oklahoma City when Nita was ten years old and they became active members of Western Hills Baptist Church. She graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1955, attended Oklahoma Baptist University for a brief time and finished her education at Draughon Business College with a secretarial degree.

Nita married Walter Donald "Don" Morrison on July 13, 1957 in Oklahoma City, OK. Together they raised three children with patience and love. Nita and Don purchased their home in Moore, OK in 1961. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Moore assisting with children's choir, teaching Girls in Action missions and volunteering her time to Vacation Bible School.

Nita was active in her children's and grandchildren's lives. She was a den mother for Cub Scouts, a group leader in Girl Scouts and she chaperoned multiple school trips and youth outings. She rarely missed a baseball, softball or basketball game; always carrying her lawn chair, umbrella and blanket in her car.
Nita was a great cook and loved to bake pies, which were her specialty. She was kind hearted, generous to a fault and always had time for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was one of a kind and will be dearly missed by all who loved her.

Nita is survived by her son, Bobby Don "Bob" Morrison, wife Janice; her daughter, Patricia Kay "Tricia" Turner, husband Roger; her daughter, Maribeth Ann "Beth" Thornton, husband David Keith; her grandchildren, Mari Ann Mullens, Justin Keith Turner, David Tod Thornton, Trae Keith Thornton, Kayla Dawn Morrison; her great-grandchildren, Cale Dee Mullens, Keeton Lane Mullens, Christian Dalyn Mullens, Braxton Jay Turner, Paisley Noelle Turner and Bryce David Thornton. She is preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

Nita's memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Moore, OK at 10:00 a.m. on November 7, 2015, with internment to follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens. Dr. Kevin Clarkson will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests prayers, condolences and contributions to the Building Fund at First Baptist Church of Moore.
