Arthur Harold Black Jr. went to be with His Lord on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the age of 96. He was born to Arthur Harold Black, Sr. and Lelon Black in his grandmother's house on a cotton plantation near Como, Mississippi on July 28, 1925. In his younger years, his family lived on farms while his Dad worked as a sharecropper. The family moved to Memphis, Tennessee during his teenage years where he got a paper route and delivered groceries after school and on Saturdays. He graduated High School at the age of 16 and joined the Unites State Navy on his 17th birthday in 1942 and served during World War II. After training at Aviation Machinist School, Advanced Propeller Repair Training and Gunnery School, he was assigned to the USS Hamlin. He served in Guam, Saipan, Ulithi, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Tokyo. He was proud to wear the badge of "The Greatest Generation". After he was honorably discharged, he returned to Memphis, Tennessee, where he married Louise (Greer) Black and they were married 59 years. From this union came three children, Lelon Ann, Harold Eugene and Vera Denise. He was also blessed with five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Art left a legacy of love for his family and instilled in them a love for God. He diligently served his church as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher for 65 years. After Louise's death, Art met Rena Mae Mabray and they were married for 14 years. They met at church where they served the Lord faithfully. He will be forever adored by his family.

Grandchildren: Ronda Sissons and husband, Wayne, Dana Hawkins and husband, Tony; Taysha Elliott and husband, Josh; Austin Black and Samantha Wood; and Korbin Black and Ashleigh Barnett;
Great Grandchildren: Stoney Hawkins and wife, Danielle; Veronica Sissons; Brock Hawkins; Raylie Hawkins; Henry Elliott; Addison Elliott; Jaelynn Elliott; Madilyn Black; Blakley Elliott and Jackson Black;
Countless other loving family and friends.
