Obituary

Arthur Forrest Kutz, son of the late Ella Geneva Cadle Kutz and Arthur Forest Kutz, was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on April 25, 1935. He passed away, peacefully, on May 8, 2022 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Art was an only child but grew up surrounded by cousins, aunts, uncles, and his maternal grandparents on their family farm in Kansas. Art followed both of his parents into national service and joined the Air Force in 1953.

Art continued his love of planes, trains, and automobiles after his time in the Air Force by joining the Federal Aviation Administration at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City as a systems analyst. He was on the cutting edge of aerospace technology for many years and often reminded his grandchildren that while they may carry computers in their pockets, he had worked on them when they were the size of a house. He travelled the country helping fledgling airports create their air traffic control systems, facilitating the occasionally challenging adoption of new technology in growing airports. If your flights have been on time on the west coast, thank Art Kutz! In his spare time, Art was an avid motocross racer, introducing both of his daughters to dirt tracks and mini bikes at an early age.

Upon retirement, Art drove his little white corvette to car shows and train exhibits and Oklahoma State football games. He could be found on the weekends in his favorite recliner watching football and enjoying a cold gin martini. A consummate host, his friends and family were always welcome to Sunday dinner on the back patio. His children and grandchildren were known to bring friends home frequently, always assured they would be given a funny nickname and a great meal.

Art is survived by his beloved wife and little buddy, Mary Hill Kutz, his daughters Dawn Kutz Allen (Ethan), and Ann Kutz Seely (Steve). He had eight grandchildren: Andrea Mauer (Sam), Erin Simpson, Pete Allen (Tucker), Adam Seely, Elizabeth Dragoo (Tucker), John Simpson (Kristan), Patterson Allen, and Daniel Allen, as well as nine great-grandchildren. All have learned to never, under any circumstances, take any wooden nickels.

The viewing will be held Friday, May 13th from 4 pm to 8 pm at Vondel L. Smith Funeral Home located at 13125 N. MacArthur Blvd. The funeral service will also be held at Vondel L. Smith Funeral Home, North Colonial Chapel on Saturday, May 14th at 11 am followed by a reception with the family.
