Obituary

Barbara Sue McDowell Brooks was born October 6, 1945 in Oneida Kentucky and went Home to Heaven November 30, 2021. She was the daughter of Oliver and Martha McDowell. Barbara was married to Ray Brooks for 35 years, and is survived by her two children: Lisa Sue Brooks Stafford and Michael Ray Brooks. She is survived by her granddaughter, Morgan Olivia Harris, Son-In-law Scott Stafford and grandson-in law Jesse Ray Harris. Step grandchildren - Andrea Cook and Cameron Stafford. She was preceded in death by her parents Oliver McDowell & Martha McDowell and brother-Johnny McDowell. She leaves behind her sister, Rosemary Lumbatis, and two brothers, Ronnie and Russell McDowell. Barbara attended and graduated in 1963 from Annville Institute High School, Annivlle, Kentucky where she sang in a Girls Gospel quartet. She traveled in 1962 recording a gospel album where she was featured as soloist and sang in Washington DC. The love of music was always a "Big" part of her life! She attended Midway Junior College, graduated in 1965 and transferred to Eastern Kentucky University majoring in Elementary Education. She taught elementary school, for several years, and worked for twenty years in the Wal-Mart Pharmacy. Barbara's greatest joy in life was her home and family and living on Ladd Rd in Washington, Oklahoma. She was an amazing mother, grandma, aunt, sister, friend, and most importantly a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. She leaves her family with a beautiful legacy. She was dedicated and faithful to her calling and loved teaching her Bible Study ladies at church on Tuesdays. She will be forever missed by those who knew and loved her.
