Bernadette “Bernie” Smith, born on August 23, 1951, in Huntington Park, California, went home to be with Jesus on July 23, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was 74 years old.

Bernie was the beloved wife of Bob L. Smith, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage. Together they built a life on love, family, and friends and unwavering devotion to one another.

She was a proud and loving mother to her two daughters, Bobette Maj of Prairie Springs, Wisconsin, and Bridget Smith of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was also a cherished grandmother to Kristen Stanley of Jacksonville, Florida; Megan Glenn of Washington, D.C.; Tylor Whitfield of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Brandon Ziegler of Wisconsin; Kortni Adams of Moore, Oklahoma; and Kellie Maxwell of Wisconsin.

Bernie was blessed with twelve great-grandchildren: Jeremiah and Karsyn Adams; Paisley, Iris, and Baker Whitfield; Jack and Josie Stanley; Cadance Glenn; Helena, Garrett, Violet and Tiffany Maxwell; all of whom brought her tremendous joy.

Throughout her career, Bernie faithfully served others in every role she held. She worked in customer service for McLoud Telephone Company, as a beautician, and ultimately retired from American Airlines, where she worked as a Reservation Agent Trainer. She had a gift for connecting with people and encouraging those around her.

More than any title or profession, Bernie will be remembered for the way she loved. She was deeply devoted to her husband and family, loved Jesus with all her heart, and never met a stranger. Beautiful both inside and out, she possessed a warmth and kindness that made everyone feel welcome. Her friendships spanned a lifetime—from classmates she met in junior high school to people she met only hours before her passing. To know Bernie was to love her.

While her family grieves her absence, they find comfort in knowing she is whole again. She has regained her sight and mobility in her heavenly body and now rests in the presence of her Savior.

Bernie’s legacy of faith, compassion, friendship, and unconditional love will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
