Betty Ann McInnis, born June 20, 1918 in Greenville, Texas to Calvin Morris & Anna Elizabeth "Bess" McGalliard, passed away March 28, 2012 in Oklahoma City. She graduated from Classen High School in 1935. In 1939 Betty graduated from Oklahoma City University at age 20. While at OCU she was tapped for Cardinal Key and made the Dean's List of Outstanding Women. During college she met Alexander Marvin McInnis. They married in 1941, a union which lasted until Marvin's death in 1983. They had two sons: A. Marvin, Jr. and Kent Allen. Betty's endless curiosity and quest for learning transferred to her sons. Betty began her career as the first Kindergarten teacher in Norman, Oklahoma, before starting her family. She later returned to teaching Kindergarten and Third Grade at Nichols Hills and University Heights Elementary Schools in OKC. In 1970 Betty bought Plaid Line Tours, the primary provider of group tours of Oklahoma for the next 13 years. She closed Plaid Line Tours and joined her husband at Travelers Motor Club. Betty was a world traveler, often picking tour groups because there were new people to meet. In her life she visited 48 states, five continents, and 55 countries. Her knowledge of the world was encyclopedic. She served on the Tourism & International Visitors Task Force for the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce. Betty and Marvin were hosts to hundreds of international visitors to Oklahoma City. Appointed by Gov. George Nigh, she served on the Advisory Board of the Employment Security Commission. She was a founder of the Classen Alumni Association, serving as president for over two years. Other memberships included Treasured Doll Club, Oklahoma Mineral & Gem Society, DAR, Oklahoma Society of Association Executives, & Oklahoma City Indian Art Club. At the age of 89 Betty decided to write her first novel, using her travel experiences as a backdrop. Meticulously researched, "It Can Happen", a story of oil drilling, intrigue, adventure, and passion, was published in 2010. She was writing two more novels at her passing. Betty is survived by son Marvin and his wife Dawn of Kansas City, son Kent and his wife Cheryl of Oklahoma City, grandchildren Scott David McInnis of Bethany, Laura Christine Sanders and her husband Maurice of Denton, Texas, and Kent Allen McInnis, Jr. of Los Angeles, California. She leaves behind two great grandchildren, Amy and Haley Sanders.
