IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bettye Lou
Anderson
June 16, 1939 – April 4, 2025
Bettye Lou (Edrington) Anderson, a devout Christian, left her earthly home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 4, 2025. The daughter of Elmer J. and Kellye M. Edrington, Bettye was born June 16, 1939, in Okla. City. She graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1958, going on to work for Bell Telephone Company in Okla. City and later Long Beach, Calif. Upon her return to Okla. City, Bettye went to work for The Oklahoman as a production artist where she met the love of her life, Jim Anderson. They married in 1970 and would share the next 55 years inseparable. Bettye's love of flowers, a passion she inherited from her mother, was no secret to anyone who knew the beautiful lady with the amazing green thumb. Tending to her large flower gardens, Bettye decided to try her hand at growing roses. What began with six rosebushes would—in just a few short years—become an incredible 200. Bettye joined the Oklahoma Rose Society in 1971, where in short order she was elected secretary and later president. She also served as a consulting Rosarian and competitively showed her roses, winning too many to count 1st place ribbons, certificates, and trophies in horticulture and floral design. Bettye later started her own floral business from home until health problems necessitated an early retirement. After a devastating tornado destroyed their home in 1998, Bettye and Jim relocated from Moore to south Oklahoma City and began worshiping at Southern Hills Baptist Church. Bettye was active in numerous ministries but found her calling in the Jubilee Choir and the Ladies Ensemble, Ballew Bells. She loved singing for the Lord, and she was good at it. Bettye is preceded in death by her parents and brother Eddie J. Edrington; and sons-in-law Aaron Dobbs and John Kersey. Bettye is survived by her husband, Jim, Okla. City; daughter Vickie Dawkins-Kersey, Tulsa; daughter Tracie Dobbs, Moore; grandson Ash Dobbs, Okla. City; sister Nita Hall and husband Bob, Okla. City; three nieces and their precious families. A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, April 16 at 1 pm, Southern Hills Baptist Church, 8601 S. Pennsylvania Avenue Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73159.
