Billie Gene Horner Hunter left this life to join her Lord and Savior and numerous friends and family on October 28, 2009. Billie Gene was born on Christmas Day December 25, 1925 near Bristow, Creek County, Oklahoma. Her family moved to Oklahoma City when she was four. She attended Shields Heights grade school, Capitol Hill Junior High School and graduated from Capitol Hill Senior High School the summer of 1943. She married her teenage sweetheart Bill Hunter on July 17, 1943. During WWII she worked as a cashier, first at the Midwest Theatre and then the Criterion Theatre. She gave birth to daughter Candy Hunter in March 1945. In the late 40's she became the Church Clerk and pastor's Secretary of Wilmont Place Baptist Church. She ended her working career with the Warr Realty Company in 1965. In 1958, Billie and her husband were among the small group of people who started Knob Hill Baptist Church and later in 1962 the Southern Hills Baptist Church. After retirement she became active in genealogy research and in 1977 joined the Daughters of the American Revolution, and with the help of Hunter female family members, she organized the Malcolm Hunter DAR Chapter in Moore, Oklahoma. She became active in several Patriotic Organizations and served as the State Regent of the Oklahoma DAR in 1992-1994. She also served as president or officer in the Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America; 1889's Society; the Colonial Dames XVII Century; Dames of the Court of Honor; United States Daughters of 1812 and Daughters of Colonial Wars.
She was preceded in death by:
• Her parents, C.O. Horner and Eula Goss Counts;
• And sister, Colleen Hopper.
She is survived by:
• Her husband, Bill Hunter;
• Daughter, Candy Hines;
• And two granddaughters, Chelle Hines Gaudin of San Antonio and Hayley Hunter Hines of Dallas.
