Billy Dean Phipps, 93, joined his Heavenly Father on June 4, 2022. Bill, as he was known to all his family and friends, was the eleventh child born to William Bedford & Lucinda Chatmer (Bond) Phipps on March 10, 1929 in Oklahoma City, OK.
With the permission of his parents, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17, after completing his sophomore year at Central High School in Oklahoma City. He entered active duty on May 25, 1946. While in the service he married the love of his life Rozella A. Burch on August 7, 1948 in Oklahoma City. Bill was honorably discharged in 1949. Shortly thereafter, he was called to serve again from 1950 to 1951. Many years later, the Oklahoma State Department of Education granted Bill his high school diploma from Central High School.
Bill opened Bill's Barber & Style Shop located in Shepherd Mall in the early 60's. After a successful career in the haircare business, Bill was ready for a change. Following this, he joined his brother-in-law in the Auto Salvage business, an endeavor that continued for quite some time, until he decided to make a career change and began working as a long-haul truck driver for Hahn Trucking, finally retiring in 1991.
Bill's first wife Rozie, as she was known to all her friends and family, passed away on May 8, 2000. They enjoyed 52 years together & she left a legacy of love in the lives of her husband, children, grandchildren & all those whose lives she touched.
In 2002 Bill married a longtime friend, Patricia Masters Coulter. They would enjoy 10 years together & were both blessed by their blended families. Pat received her heavenly reward on December 2, 2012.
A steadfast Christian, Bill worshiped for many years at Draper Park Christian Church. He was a faithful servant and was active in Sunday School and with the Senior Group.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 52 years Rozie; second wife of 10 years Patricia; siblings Versa, Velma, Ann, Hazel, John "JC", Luvena, Glenn "Buddy", Lowell "Gene", twins (brother & sister) Willie and Willard who died at birth; and son Jimmy Dale Phipps.
Bill will always be remembered as a loving & devoted husband father & grandfather. He loved people and never met a stranger.
He leaves cherished memories with those who survive; daughters Vicki Gable of Moore; Billie Meek & husband Larry of OKC; step-daughter Karen Masters of Moore; grandchildren Michael Gable, Toree Parks, Todd Meek, Christopher Meek & Roni Brown; great grandchildren Braden & Brantley Gable, Logan Parks, Rylan & Garrett Meek, Kyla & Colton Meek, Jimmy & Allyson Payne, Danielle & Kelcey Clark.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2022 from 4-8 PM. The family will be present to greet friends from 5-7 PM at Vondel L. Smith & Sons Mortuary at South Lakes 4000 S. W. 119th.
Services to celebrate his life will be held at 1 PM on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Draper Park Christian Church 8500 S. Walker Avenue Oklahoma City, OK.
