IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bonnie Ruth
Harty
September 8, 1941 – June 3, 2025
Bonnie Platt Harty was born on September 8, 1941 and passed away
peacefully on June3, 2025 at Mercy Hospital as a consequence of heart failure. She
was the 6th of 7 offspring from her parents Ruth and Isaac Platt. She was raised in
South Britain, Connecticut on Purchase Hill where her father farmed and raised
cattle. Bonnie graduated from Southbury High School as a valedictorian in 1959 and
accepted a scholarship at Duke University, where she graduated as a history major.
Her interest in teaching and the Christian religion brought her back to Connecticut to
pursue those goals.
She met and married Richard Harty, who was a resident of Southbury, in 1968
and she assisted him in his career in academic medicine. They raised two children,
Seth and Zoey Harty. In Omaha, NE, when the children were in their teens, she
enrolled in Creighton University Law School and was an Honors Graduate in 1991.
Bonnie and Richard moved to Oklahoma City in 1992, where he joined the faculty at
the University of Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center. She began her
private practice of law to help clients in the area of bankruptcy. During her adult life,
she developed interests in spiritual faith and the desire to help people through
interactions with the Creator and practiced Healing Touch therapy. She was an
advocate of environmental responsibility and wrote articles addressing climate
change.
As a mother to Seth and Zoey and as a grandmother to Seth's boys, Phineas
and August, she provided guidance, comfort and support to foster their growth and
maturity. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her sisters, Janis
Gallison and Loris Bette. When her sister Lorraine Greene passed away in 1995, she
provided support and love to her nephews Ted, Jeffery and Michael and her niece
Melissa. She was a good neighbour, providing care and support for a lady across the
street who was 104 years old and living by herself. Their interactions developed into
a friendship which was life-sustaining to both. Family and friends recall her goodness
as a person, at ease with herself and the needs of others. She will be missed, and
she is loved.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 12 at 2:00PM in the Abbey Mausoleum Chapel at Rose Hill Burial Park.
