IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carol Evonne
Cook
July 19, 1950 – November 24, 2023
Carol E. (George ) Cook, 73, passed away Friday, November 24th, 2023, at home surrounded by her family who loved her so dearly. She was diagnosed with Cancer in 2021 and fought mightily for more than two years.
Carol was born in Afton, Oklahoma on July 19, 1950, and was a student at Hickory Grove Elementary School as a child. She attended church frequently with her parents and older siblings: Shirley, Marilyn, and Burl. Carol later attended Grove High School where she was a cheerleader and outstanding student, graduating in 1967. After high school, she attended college at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami and eventually graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
During her more than 30-year career, Carol was the Director of Resource Management at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant and received the Superior Civilian Service Award. MCAAP consistently exceeded its financial goals during her tenure, and she was recognized as a key player in leadership and financial planning. Professionally, she was objective and had the great ability to defuse and solve complex problems. She was a tremendous role model and plant representative through her professionalism, dedication to duty, and overall great attitude.
Carol and her husband Randy lived in McAlester for over 40 years, raising their children and enjoying grandchildren. Carol was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she loved her family dearly. After retiring, Carol and Randy traveled often with friends – one of her favorite destinations was Canada. She also loved spending time at home with her large family. As the matriarch of the family her wisdom was treasured; she was always available to listen and provide valuable life advice as well as advice on everyday things. She never stopped missing Randy, who died in 2016. Their reunion in Heaven must have been glorious. Carol's death is a profound loss for the family. Although Carol is no longer here on this earth, she leaves special memories with each of her children, family members and close friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but she will never be forgotten.
In her spare time, Carol was usually reading. Her favorites were fiction and mysteries. She took a speed reading course and could get through a book a day. She was a talented quilter. Years ago, she set out to make a special quilt for each member of her family, gifting beautiful quilts to many over the past decade. Anyone who knew her knew she loved to cook and was very skilled in the kitchen – a talent she tried to pass on to her children. Carol was a great friend and had a small group of special friends she kept up with from her childhood in Grove and from her adult life in McAlester. They were very near and dear to Carol.
Carol was preceded in Death by her Parents, Everett and Willie George; loving Husband, Randy; her Brother, Burl George; a Sister, Shirley Keene. She is survived by her Son, Bryan Shuman & wife, Sarah; Daughters: Sandy Lindley & husband, Trent, and Amanda Everett & husband, Heath Toon; a Sister, Marilyn Zapponi; 13 Grandchildren: Kirsty Cook, Jaycee Curtis and husband, Trynton, Mackenzie Cook, Darcey Shuman, Bryce Shuman, Chandler Shuman, Jaievyn Shuman, Taylor Higgins, Eli Toon, Tracy Toon, Ryan Toon, Zachary Lindley and Trevor Lindley; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers-in-law: Bob Keene, Rick Cook, and David Cook; cousins, nieces and nephews, and many other loving family & friends.
