Obituary

Carol Anne Smith was born in Oklahoma City to Virgie and W.R. Baughman on February 20th, 1937, and passed peacefully on November 12, 2024, at her residence in Oklahoma City.

She grew up "on the farm" in Norman Ok, attending Falls School and often talked about how she would wake up with snow on her quilt from the holes in the roof and getting dressed in several layers to brave the cold to make it to the outhouse and to collect water at the outdoor pump. She often joked that people would say that they didn't realize how poor they were growing up, but she never had a doubt about how poor they were! Later in life, her family moved to Oklahoma City where her father got a job at the state capitol as a security guard.

Carol graduated from Capitol Hill High School and shortly thereafter she met the love of her life, LeRoy Smith. They started a family, first with Blake in 1960 and shortly after came Leslie in 1962. They bought a house in Oklahoma City and soon realized that city life was not for them. Carol and LeRoy bought 5 acres in Newcastle in 1968 and built a house, living there until 1999 when they built a new house in Tuttle. Carol and her family lived a wonderful life in Newcastle, raising horses and cattle, riding motorcycles, boating at the lake and of course attending all the athletic and musical activities that Leslie and Blake were involved in.

Carol loved gardening, spending time at the Lake and traveling. Carol worked for over 30 years at Southwestern Bell and retired early. She took advantage of early retirement and traveled the world. They had a close set of friends that they often traveled with. She and LeRoy especially loved Australia and South Africa and often visited Lake City Colorado and Destin Florida. While she loved to travel, she mostly loved being home and being involved in her three grandsons' lives. She and LeRoy were active grandparents, attending all the boys' games and activities. She and LeRoy were also avid OU football fans and enjoyed season tickets for many years and later enjoyed watching the OU girls' basketball team.

Carol was a member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church and loved Jesus. She fostered lots of deep friendships with her church family and found comfort and solace in her relationship with God.
