Obituary

Catherine Ann Hester (Rischard) was called home on June 3, 2026. Catherine was born August 18, 1937 in Okarche, OK, the eighth of ten children, to Paul and Helen (Lena) Rischard. After a short residency in Kingfisher, the family moved to Oklahoma City in 1943. Catherine spent the next twelve years attending Sacred Heart Elementary and Mount St. Mary High School. She was very proud of the education she received from the Sisters of Mercy and was particularly fond of Sister Geraldine. Upon graduating from the Mount, Catherine began her career in banking that culminated in eighteen years of loyal employment at Stockyards Bank. Catherine married the love of her life Charles Hester on March 31, 1973. The couple established their home in Oklahoma City, and welcomed their only child, a son Richard (Rick), in 1974. After a break from the professional world to focus on her most important job—being a mother, Catherine returned to work in 1979 at the General Motors assembly plant. There, she was a loyal employee who worked various jobs in the assembly process for 18+years until her retirement in 1998. A lifelong devout Catholic, Catherine spent her retired years volunteering with various groups and projects at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. One of her favorite jobs was returning to her banking past to help count the parish collection each week. In her later years, Catherine became a member of St. James the Greater Catholic Church, where she would ultimately be a familiar face to a whole new group of people. Catherine found some of her greatest joy in simply spending time with family and friends. Whether you knew her as “Cathy” or “Aunt Catherine”, she was never afraid to speak her mind, and always wanted to know what was new in your life. She was often her happiest when in the presence of children, especially her great nieces and nephews, who she loved to dote on and play with. You could also always interest her in a rousing game of bingo. Although she was not an adventurous or athletic person herself, Catherine was always willing to go along for the ride if it meant making those important to her happy. This included the time she went off the high dive just to show Rick it could be done! She likewise took great pleasure in cheering for young family members at their sporting events, which she almost always attended with her sister Helen, earning them their beloved moniker: “the Aunts.” Catherine was preceded in death by her husband Charles, both her parents, and seven of her siblings. She is survived by her son Rick (Oklahoma City); sisters Mary Piper (Oklahoma City) and Aggie Rischard (Washington); and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James the Greater Catholic Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
