Obituary

Celestine "Tina" (Rodriquez ) Zuniga, 93, of Oklahoma City passed away Monday, January 13th, 2025 at Integris Southwest Medical Center.

Tina was born April 6,1931 in Oklahoma City to Tanis Rodriquez and Timotea (Ramirez) Rodriquez . Tina attended Little Flower Catholic Church and attended school there as a young girl. She graduated from Central high School in 1949.

In 1952 she married the love of her life, Rafael Zuniga, Sr. in Oklahoma City at Little Flower Catholic Church. They were blessed with 2 children, Valerie and Rafael Jr. Tina was a loving wife and a devoted mother to her children.

In the early 50's Tina began working as a medical records clerk at McBride, then moved to Bone and Joint Hospital. In 1960 she began her 39 year tenure at Hillcrest Hospital and retired in 2000. She fully enjoyed her career and loved helping others through her work. After retirement she helped as a mentor in the reading program at John Glenn elementary. Working with the children was a highlight after retirement from the hospital.

Tina and Rafael were well known for opening their home to family members in need of a place to stay and it was a safe house for their relatives. Over the year's family stayed with them while in between jobs, relationships, and other life events. One of their longest staying guests was Tina's dear niece Ben Walker. She was like a daughter to Tina and lived with the family for many years until graduating from high School.

Tina was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013. Through the help of her doctors and support of her family she was able to beat cancer and get back to living life.

Tina had many hobbies. She worked with ceramics, stained glass and also loved watching birds, especially cardinals. She and her friends also had established a dinner group made up of her peers that grew up in and around packing town. They made great memories together and those dinners brought her great joy. Most of all, her family was her greatest joy. She loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart.

In 2020 Tina was diagnosed with dementia. Although her memory was fading, her family was able to draw nearer to her, and their presence helped to make her last year's full of happiness.
