Charles William "Bill" Groh was born June 23, 1934 in Alva, Oklahoma the son of Adolph
Martin and Lela Belle (McReynolds) Groh. He completed this life at his home at Concordia
Retirement Center in Oklahoma City on Thursday, May 23, 2024.
Bill was raised in Alva where he graduated from Alva High School in 1951. He then attended
Texas Tech where he graduated with a degree in Engineering.
Bill went to work for Santa Fe Railroad as a Civil Engineer where he lived in Amarillo, Topeka,
Oklahoma City, Chicago and Los Angeles. After his retirement he and his wife, Avalon, moved
to The Coves at Grand Lake where they lived for 22 years. They then moved to Oklahoma City
to be closer to family in 2016.
Bill married Avalon Gloe Atkinson on May 1, 1954 in Wichita, Kansas. She preceded him in
death on April 6, 2016 after being married 61 years.
Bill is survived by his son, Charles W. Groh, Jr. and his wife Debbi of Oklahoma City; his
daughter, Chalon Campbell and her husband Bill of San Antonio, TX; his grandchildren,
Wesley Groh, Tyler Groh, Alex Cedillo and her husband Esteban and Carson Campbell; his
great grandchildren, Estella Avalon Cedillo, Anderson Emilia "Andi" Cedillo and Esteban
Fitzwilliam "Fitz" Cedillo.
Memorial service will be held 10:30 AM, Thursday, May 30 in the chapel of Concordia
Retirement Center.
