Charles Edmund McGee (Chuck) of Oklahoma City, OK passed away peacefully, on June 8, 2022 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on November 8, 1938 in Houston, TX, but his mother insisted after the house fire, "it was the 9th because she was there." He was the youngest of three sons born to Frank M. and Verna M. (Goodpasture) McGee. His older brothers were Frankie and Ronnie. Family moved to Oklahoma City when Chuck was 3 years old. He proudly said of his education in Oklahoma City, "I went to Stand Watie Elementary, Jackson Junior High, Capitol Hill High School, (Home of the Redskins) until 10th grade." He graduated from Lewis-Palmer High School, in Monument, CO. He graduated college from Western State, Gunnison, CO with a BA in business and a minor in history. He worked Union Carbide while in college. He was then drafted into the Army. He was placed into intelligence because he had a degree and his typing ability. He was a history buff and this was a rich time for him as he spent some time in Germany. After his military career his career led him to work for Retail Credit Company, G.E. Credit Corporation and finally with the State of Oklahoma, ODOT in land acquisition until retirement.
Chuck has always been a people person. He loved telling the story of how he and his future bride first met: She babbling from the fence, sucking her thumb and twisting her hair. At the time she was 3 and he 5 years old. She was the love of his life for just short of 58 years. He loved to tease. She remembers him placing a huge cardboard box over her and sitting on it. She feared catching his measles since her mother told her to "stay away from Dooder" (his nickname). He heard many times, "she married you to get even." Their first date was her junior prom. These two families were like "one". After his military service in the Army, they married, October 31, 1964 at Trinity Church of the Nazarene. Most friends said to him "You traveled half way around the world to come back and marry the girl across the street". Their family was complete when Melanie was born. His family was his first love and his life.
Chuck never met a stranger. He had the ability to develop friendships that lasted over a lifetime and many became adopted family members. Neighbors, coworkers, daughter's friends, fellow campers, church folk or people in his Sunday School class all knew his undivided attention and love. He loved being a snowbird in Hemet, California, where he & his wife spent their winters over 15 years. He was a great conversationalist and you knew you were important to him. He loved sharing and investing his time in others. He had a beautiful lifetime relationship with God. He delighted in reading God's Word daily and sharing that message with others. He was active at Trinity Church of the Nazarene. He recently became a member of the OKC chapter of SAR (Sons of the American Revolution).
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers. He is survived by his wife, Deanna and cousin Jean Organ of the home; daughter Melanie Gail and husband Kevin Micue of Oklahoma City, OK; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
