IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Christina Juanita
Cannaday
February 23, 1932 – February 5, 2024
Visitation will be 4-8 pm today, Thursday, February 8th and Friday, February 9th, with family present on Friday, from 6-8 pm to greet friends and family, at Vondel Smith Mortuary, 6934 S. Western Ave. Funeral will be 10 am Saturday, February 10th, at Shartel Church of God, 11600 S. Western, OKC.
Christina Cannaday (Arismendez, Burton) left her earthly home on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024, at age 91. She had been in declining health for some time.
She was born on February 23, 1932 to Cecil and Pauline (Porter) Arismendez, in Oklahoma City. She was preceded in death by husband Delano Cannady, her parents, and her sisters, Delores Adams and Wanda McDonald.
She attended Columbus Elementary School, Jackson Jr High, and Capitol Hill High School, from where she graduated in 1950. She also went to Gulf Coast Bible College in Houston Texas.
She married Delano Cannaday and they were together for over forty-five years. Chris worked in various Civil Service positions for decades at FAA, Tinker Airforce Base, and later for the State of Oklahoma at the Water Resources Board. She excelled in administrative office skills, becoming so fast at shorthand and typing that she was in high demand at Tinker, until she was beckoned to live overseas.
Growing up in south Oklahoma City, she attended the South Agnew and Capitol Hill Churches of God. She had lots of fun with her sisters and wonderful friends that she enjoyed lunching with into her eighties.
They went to live on the island of Mallorca, Spain from 1976 to 1980. It was there she participated in women's softball and bowling leagues, and also played tennis in her free time. She was able to travel through England, Scotland, Wales, and Holland during those years. In the Eighties, they moved to Bogota, Columbia and Lima, Peru. She had many tales of adventures.
Chris loved people and truly enjoyed being a part of the committees for the class reunions for Jackson Jr High and Capitol Hill for many years. She began volunteering with the Whiz Kids program at Capitol Hill Church of God and then continued until she was 86.
Watching sports was another thing she loved to do. She was partial to tennis and football, but would really watch anything that was on any of the sports channels – you might catch her watching tennis, football, baseball, basketball, golf or soccer.
She is survived by daughters Pauline Warden, Oklahoma City, Shelley and spouse Denny Moody, Wyoming, Michigan, Kelley and spouse Vann Norris, Oklahoma City, Cecelia Bass, Oklahoma City, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, brother, Cecil and wife Bettsey Arismendez, sister, Grace Blackmon, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
