On January 6, 2016, Christine Baugh left this earth for her long-awaited meeting with her Lord, her husband, and many friends at last.
Born September 18, 1921 in Lelia Lake, TX to Van and Lillie Knox, Christine grew up on a farm in Ashtola, TX. She was enrolled in Baylor School of Nursing, Dallas, TX when she met and married the love of her life, Frank O. Baugh. She later graduated from OBU in Shawnee, OK and earned her Master's Degree from UCO in Edmond, OK.
Throughout their 59-year marriage, the Baughs were a team in the ministry, serving Southern Baptist churches in Hollis, Hobart, and Shawnee, OK, and in Colorado Springs, CO. The final years of their ministry were spent at Exchange Ave. Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Missions and missionaries were dear to Christine. She held leadership roles in Woman's Missionary Union in her local church and on associational, state and national levels.
Mrs. Baugh retired from U. S. Grant High School after teaching for 22 years. She moved from teaching standard English to college prep classes, but the capstone of her career was teaching The Bible As Literature, an elective course for which she wrote the curriculum, and every semester students were turned away for lack of classroom space. Many of her students still name her as their strictest, yet most loved teacher.
Christine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, twin son Lonnie, and sister Pat. She is survived by son Ronnie, of Tyler, TX; daughters Mary Wilkinson and Rebecca Lasiter of Moore, OK; grandchildren Mark, Ronnie Van, Jr., Christopher and Christy Baugh, Jay Wilkinson, Lana Thielker and Lisa Mears. She is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren, her sisters Billie Jean Roberts and Charlene Denney, many nieces and nephews, and a host of loving friends.
The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering (for missions) through Exchange Ave. Baptist Church.
