IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Coleen
Bundy
March 7, 1930 – January 10, 2026
Coleen Bundy
Our beautiful, loving and amazing mother passed away on January 10, 2026. She was the heart and soul of our family, and we can’t believe she is gone. Coleen Marie Bundy was born on March 7, 1930, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Lila and G. A. Freeman. She had an older brother, Leroy Freeman, whom she idolized. Mother told us stories of her childhood in Grand Rapids including the local park being filled with water in the winter for ice skating. She also loved swimming in Lake Michigan with her many cousins. She remembered that there were always one or more family members living with them during the depression and early war years. After her mother remarried, they moved to Oklahoma City in the middle of her senior year. Mother attended Classen High School where she met our father, Frank Bundy, on the tennis court during the spring semester. At first she thought his name was Fred, but they straightened that out and fell in love. They married later that year in December. A couple of years later their first child, Debby, was born. Then Dennis, Diane, Darlene, Darrell and Danny came along. In addition to raising 6 children, she and Daddy loved to square dance and later they also enjoyed ballroom dancing. We know that she is dancing in heaven with Daddy.
After being a stay-at-home mother for many years (how could you not with 6 kids?), she ventured outside the home to work at The Quilting Bee when Danny was in junior high. She loved working there and interacting with the customers. She had always been an excellent seamstress making a lot of our clothes, but she also became a quilter and taught quilting. She stayed with the owners when they moved to Casady Square and opened Oklahoma Quiltworks. Our father was active in the Siloam Masonic Lodge and the Shrine, so she also became part of the Eastern Star. She loved making blankets and bears for the children in the hospital. She also made bears for all of us for various holidays.
When our father became ill with dementia, she kept him at home and took care of him with the help of all of us. She didn’t want to put him in a nursing home, so she made sure he was comfortable at home. She was amazing in her care for him. They had been married for 65 years when he passed away in 2014. Even with occasional health issues with trips to the hospital and rehab, she was able to stay in her home thanks to Danny’s excellent caregiving and all of us helping as we could. She was truly the best and most loving mother ever and we were the luckiest children ever to have had her for our mother.
Coleen was predeceased by her husband Frank, her parents Lila Bennitt and G. A. Freeman, her stepfather Don Bennitt, her brother Leroy Freeman, her daughter Darlene Hawes, and her son, Darrell Bundy. Left behind with loving memories of her are her children, Debby Richardson (Gary), Dennis Bundy (Lynn), Diane Shelton (Cecil), and Danny Bundy. Also, grandchildren Andrea Hembree and Heather Roberts, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. We would like to thank the 6th floor trauma nurses at Baptist Integris and the people at ACG Hospice for their excellent care of our mother.
A celebration of our mother’s life will be held on Saturday, March 7, at 1:00-3:00 P.M. at Debby’s house. It will be a come-and-go to share memories and reminisce about our wonderful mother. Please check with a family member for the address.
