Dr. Daniel Joe Leathers, age 86, was born in Tuskahoma, Oklahoma on November 15, 1937 to Clarence L. and Anna Ballard Leathers. He departed this life on September 25, 2024 at his home near Lawton, Oklahoma.
Danny graduated from Jones High School in 1956. On May 26, 1973 he married the love of his life, Tommie Weatherford, in Oklahoma City.
After honorably serving in the U. S. Army and the Army Reserves, his thirst for knowledge and learning led him to earn his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Clemson University. Danny began his career by teaching chemistry at Central State University, now U.C.O. Later, he made the decision to enter the business world by joining the 3M Company in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Throughout the next 29 years, he held many management positions. This allowed Danny and Tommie to experience living in many interesting places, including England, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Virginia. Danny's last transfer led them to Thousand Oaks, California, where they resided for 21 years.
After Danny retired from 3M in 2002, he and Tommie returned to Oklahoma, residing near the mountains near Medicine Park. There, Danny continued to pursue his interests in music, reading, travel and caring for his little dog family.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Tommy and Elizabeth Weatherford; his brother, Dr. Charles Leathers; a sister-in law, Virginia Leathers; niece, Pamela Martin-Wohlemouth; nephew, Marc Alan Knight; and a great-niece, Jodi Jones.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Tommie; his brother, Paul Leathers; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Leathers, Mary Nobles, Linda Stanley and her husband Jerry, Ann Rook and her husband Bill, Genevieve Knight and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He loved all his family dearly.
Graveside services and interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park in Oklahoma City on September 30,, 2024 at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in his honor to the charity of the donor's choice.
His wife, Tommie, wishes to thank his caring private nurses and aides, and the staff of Enhabit Home Health, and Choice Hospice who compassionately and tenderly assisted with his care.
