Darrell Warren Johnson was born October 6, 1944 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Frankie Marie (Lawson) and Vernon Lee Johnson. He was a very shy young man attending 16 schools in the 12 years. He attended Oklahoma State University for two years before transferring to Central State University to be the first class to attend a degree program for funeral service education. He graduated with honors in 1966. He started his career in 1967 at Gage, Oklahoma opening a funeral home there. Then in 1970 he and his father began Good Samaritan Funeral Service in Woodward. Darrell later opened funeral homes in Shattuck, Oklahoma and Booker, Texas. For many years it was a "mom & pop" business with his beloved wife, Kathy by his side all the time. Together they worked hard to earn the coveted national Pursuit of Excellence award. They dearly loved serving the people of the northwest area. It was a difficult time for them when they decided to retire in June of 2008. Then they made their home in southwest Oklahoma City where Darrell was so proud of the beautiful landscaping he did at their new home. Following his diagnosis with stage four cancer, they moved to their present home in South Oklahoma City. In addition to his church activities, he had served as Chairman of the Board of the Woodward Chamber of Commerce, President of and a Paul Harris Fellow with the Woodward Rotary Club, and for several years was Chairman of the Board of the Woodward Meals on Wheels. He was currently a member of Capitol Hill Assembly of God in Oklahoma City. Darrell loved hiking and fishing and all of God's beautiful creation. He also enjoyed using God's creations to make beautiful landscapes. Mr. Johnson was welcomed into the caring arms of Jesus on Sunday, September 18, 2011 with his loving family surrounding him. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Dallas Wayne and his sister, Janette Henderson. He is survived by his wife, Kathy of the home; two daughters and their husbands, Clarissa and Ian Simpson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Katrina and Shawn McDowell of Woodward, Oklahoma; a brother and his wife, Dale and Nancy Johnson of Moore, Oklahoma; five grandchildren: Thad, Zach, Caleb, Francesca, all of Broken Arrow, and Kamryn of Woodward; a number of beloved nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Memorials may be made to Assemblies of God World Missions 1445 N. Boonville Ave. Springfield, MO 65802 for Jason & Roberta Roberts Chiapas, Mexico Mission Acct #2645125.
