David Engles passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022 after a brief battle with cancer. David was born on April 24, 1951 in Newport, Arkansas to Howard and Emma Jean Engles. In 1952, his family relocated and made a home in Oklahoma City. When David was a young boy, his father owned Howard's DX, and many of his days after school were spent helping his father clean up tools and tidy things around the shop. David was active in sports as a young man and played basketball, football and also wrestled. He graduated from U.S. Grant in 1969.
After high school David went to work full time as a mechanic alongside his father and they operated the business until 1994. Following the sale of Howard's DX, David went to work as a mechanic for Oklahoma City Public Schools. He retired from OKC Public Schools in 2003.
David and his family were long time members at Capitol Hill Assembly of God. David loved the Lord. He loved people and finding ways to help others. He was kind and compassionate. As he told his boys in his last days, love each other and love God. That was his life's motto, loving God and loving others.
In his spare time, David enjoyed fishing, checking out garage sales and spending time with Debi. He recently took up the hobby of making knives. His neighbor, Gary, was helping him learn how to craft the handles and polish the blades. He thoroughly enjoyed working with his hands again and making something beautiful.
David was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Macie.
He is survived by his wife Debi Engles; children: David Engles Jr and spouse Kortnee, Darla Majors, Andrew Engles and partner Heather Bolan, and Brock Engles; grandchildren: Gatlin, Carissa, and Wyatt; siblings: Sharon and John Rinehart, Danny and Robyn Engles, Charlie Engles, Debi and John Poe and Tracy and Jennifer Engles; In-laws: Steve and Trish Henson, and Chimene and Bob Burke; Mother-in-law, Jimmy Ruth Thompson and father-in-law, Clifford Henson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends a special "Thank you" to Dr. Yerra and Dr. Shari Jones, and the nurses at Norman Regional Hospital, Porter Campus and everyone who took such wonderful care of David during his hospital stays
