IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David Martin
Holmes
October 9, 1951 – November 21, 2023
David Martin Holmes was born on October 9, 1951, in Oklahoma City. He peacefully
departed from this world on November 21, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family at
home. David was the beloved son of Kenneth and Jerry Holmes, nee Maloney.
David leaves behind a legacy of family, faith, and fun. He married Sandra Lynn Rowland,
in 1971, and together they built a life filled with joy and purpose. Their union was
blessed with five children: Micah, Mirandy, Luke, Caleb, and Abby. Each of his children,
along with their spouses, brought immeasurable happiness to David's life. His legacy
extends to 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, who will forever carry the
warmth of his love in their hearts.
A graduate of Grant High School in 1969, David pursued higher education at
Southwestern State College in Weatherford, earning his B.S. in education in 1973. His
whole professional life was dedicated to education of the next generations. He served
48 years at Christian Heritage Academy (CHA) as a teacher, coach, administrator, bus
driver, and whatever else was needed. As a headmaster his impact on students and
colleagues alike was immeasurable. David's commitment to education was a testament
to his character. He annually led a Boston trip for CHA seniors, creating cherished
memories for decades of students.
David and Sandra served for decades at Heritage Baptist Church, where they raised their
children. He worked in the youth department, led mission trips, served as an elder, and
again did whatever else was needed. He loved working with the youth, teaching, being a
sponsor on trips, and fostering spiritual life and growth in students. His ability to
balance truth, humor and sincerity as a teacher was unmatched.
David was deeply passionate about mission work and he traveled extensively with the
school and church. Over the course of 40 mission trips to more than 20 countries, he
spread the gospel with unwavering enthusiasm and compassion. His dedication to
serving others left an indelible mark on countless lives around the world.
In addition to his immediate family, David is survived by his sister, Debby Holmes
Hovarter, and her husband, Billy. His memory will forever be cherished by family, friends,
and those touched by his kindness.
A celebration of David's life will be held at First Southern Baptist Church on December 6
at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either "CHA
Missions" or to "Heritage Baptist Missions" in honor of David Holmes.
