IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David
Jeffrey
September 28, 1940 – April 7, 2015
David L. Jeffrey ended his journey of this life on Tuesday after a struggle with cancer. He was the first son of 6 siblings born to Russell and Adeline Jeffrey, now deceased. A great deal of his life was spent in Oklahoma City where he attended Sequoyah Elementary, Taft Junior High and Northwest Classen High School. After a brief time in the military he received two degrees at Oklahoma State University. David had a kind and caring heart and his choice of careers was well suited to his personality. He taught students who were going into Rehabilitation Counseling, as a professor at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX. Eventually moving on to the Graduate Dean's office where he served as the Associate Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, he retired there at SFA in 2007. David loved singing and woke with a whistle every morning. His life was full of singing as he joined the high school choir, a quartet, later a group called the Freedonia Folk, and was a loyal member of choirs at the First Methodist Church and Austin Heights Church of Nacogdoches. He and his wife felt fortunate to find and become members of Mayflower Congregational United Church of Christ where he again became a member of the exceptional choir. David leaves behind the siblings who helped him grow into a strong individual: Patsy Mitscher (husband Tom), Carolyn Daniels (husband Leonard), Dorothy Allen (husband Gene), Larry (wife Deborah), Russ (wife Nancy). He married Kay Kemp and their children include Mike Jeffrey, Jenny Scott (Joe), Layne DeBardelabem (Rob), Doug Jeffrey (Shonda). In 1988, David married Jann Lowther, whom he had know since they were pre-schoolers, and he acquired three devoted step daughters: September Landers (John), Heather Wilson, Jill Heare. Combining these families allowed the number of grandchildren to exceed his hopes and expectations: Ilora, Holly, Rebecca, Hayden, Amryn, Sunday, Allison, Aaron, Matthew, Elizabeth, and Lytle. The extended Jeffrey family filled his life with fun and music and cousins and uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces. All those left behind rejoice in having known David and will miss hearing his guitar and singing. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a contribution to the music department at Mayflower UCC.
