Obituary

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Friday September 15, 2023 at Vondel L. Smith Mortuary South Western.

Debra Lou Vasquez left this earth on September 11, 2023 in Oklahoma City, OK, where she was a lifetime resident. She was born to her parents Clinton & Wanda Lou (Ritter) Lane, on February 15, 1960, and she was raised with three other siblings, Judy, Russell & Jack. In 1978 Debra graduated from Southeast High School. After high school, she began her life as an adult, raising children and finding her career niche. She was a wonderful mother, who was always encouraging her family to work hard, and love hard. For over 25 years, she and her husband Javier Vasquez have been an example of a strong marriage for the family. Debra worked at the Oklahoma District Attorney's Office, where she could complete almost any task asked of her. She served 22 years working for the DA's office, and retired as a probation supervisor in 2019, which she loved, as it gave her the opportunity to encourage those who were struggling. When she wasn't working, (and especially after her retirement), she loved to spend time with her family. Her grandchildren brought so much joy into her life, even though they could be a little wild. You could find her in the kitchen, where she could whip up the best bowl spaghetti, a rich pot of stew, or any another hot meal you may be craving. She loved to read so much that it would be easier to name the books she hadn't read. Debra loved to be crafty, making scrapbooks for keepsakes, or even completing a project she saw on TV. We cannot wait to hear her voice in the Angels choir, even if it is a bit off pitch. Our wonderful Debra will be missed each day, but we all find comfort in knowing that she is at peace.
