Deloris entered Heavens Gates on November 3, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Deloris was born in Mulhall, Oklahoma on August 30, 1936 to James Leroy & Cynthia Pearl (Dobson) Hunt.
Deloris was raised in Mulhall attending The Vassar Grade School, a one room school house, a historical landmark located in Payne County; the original building, eventually became the Vassar Community Center. She graduated from Mulhall High School in 1955. While in high school she played on the girls' basketball team & lettered in the sport.
Deloris moved to Oklahoma City shortly after graduation and joined the fellowship at Trinity Church of the Nazarene; this is where she would meet the love of her life and husband of 64 years, Kenneth Leonard. Deloris attended Draughn's School of Business, which led to her first employment in the city with Oklahoma Electrical Supply Company, she continued with OES until following Kenneth to his military assignment in Biloxi, MS where they were married on August 20, 1960.
Following Ken's discharge from military service, they returned to Oklahoma settling in Oklahoma City where they raised their family.
During the early years of her children's lives, Deloris worked as a homemaker. Once the children became older she was offered a position at Trinity Church of the Nazarene as Church Secretary and later became the Administrative Assistant to the Pastor. Deloris retired in 2004 after 36 years of faithful service.
Deloris was a steadfast woman of faith and along with her husband Ken they worshiped at Trinity Church of the Nazarene for over 60 years, leading others to Christ through their ministry of Discipleship. Deloris was blessed with the gift of hospitality. For many years she and Ken opened their home every Sunday for the college students attending Bethany Nazarene, where she would provide dinner and minister to those away from home who needed the fellowship of others and spiritual direction.
Along with Deloris's gift of hospitality, she was an excellent cook, she especially enjoyed the holidays always making each and every one a special occasion for everyone attending. Deloris was also a very talented seamstress, making clothes for her children and herself, and costumes for special events.
Her grandchildren brought immeasurable joy to her life, she loved each and every encounter, reading books, bible verses, playing games (which she always won), and she cherished every moment creating precious memories and experiences that have been etched in the hearts of all her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years, Kenneth; and brother Howard Hunt.
Deloris is survived by her daughter Jeanne Griffin & husband Doug, son Steve Leonard & wife Robin, spiritually adopted son Don Retter & his wife DeeDee; Brother; Louis Hunt & wife Joan Aubrie Hunt;Sisters; Louise Hunt Warcup and Lenora Hunt Yost & husband Ralph
8 grandchildren, Christian Retter (Lacey), Caylee De Jesus (Salvador), Austin Griffin(Courtney), Tabitha Hutcherson (Logan), Chelsea Cooke(Evan), Trent Leonard(Bailey), Kara Cranston (Bobby), and Troy Leonard.
7 great grandchildren Brentley Retter, Bennett Retter, Ella Griffin, Chandler Cooke, Mailee Cranston, Lilah Griffin, and Selah De Jesus; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home
The family will receive friends for visitation at the church at 10 AM, just prior to services on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Leonard Discipleship Fund in care of Trinity Church of the Nazarene 7301 S. Walker Ave. Oklahoma City, OK 73139
